Overview
Understanding sciatica
Sciatica is not a diagnosis in itself but a description of nerve-related symptoms. Common underlying causes include a bulging or herniated lumbar disc pressing on the nerve, or narrowing and irritation elsewhere along its path.
Where a disc is contributing, non-surgical spinal decompression (VAX-D or SpineMED) may be considered after assessment, often alongside chiropractic care, laser therapy and targeted exercise.

- Pain radiating from the low back into the leg
- Tingling, burning or 'pins and needles'
- Leg weakness or heaviness
- Symptoms that worsen with sitting or certain movements
Possible causes

- Nerve irritation and inflammation
- Degenerative changes in the lower spine
- Muscle tightness affecting the nerve's path
How we help
Treatments we may consider
After an assessment, we discuss which of these options — alone or combined — may be appropriate for your sciatica.
We use evidence-based approaches and never promise cures or guaranteed results. If care with us isn't appropriate, or medical evaluation is needed first, we'll tell you.

Sciatica questions
Many people find that sciatica improves with conservative care. Depending on the cause, options such as spinal decompression, chiropractic care and laser therapy may be appropriate. An assessment helps determine what is suitable, and we will refer on if needed.
Seek urgent medical care if you develop severe or rapidly worsening weakness, or any loss of bladder or bowel control. These are uncommon but important warning signs that need prompt attention.
